HOW TO…
Replace My Stove Glass.
Important: Please Read Before Continuing

Before You Begin
- Make sure the stove is completely cool.
- Use safety gloves to avoid injury from broken glass or sharp edges.
- Have your replacement ceramic stove glass ready (standard glass won't work—it must be heat-resistant).
- You'll also likely need rope seals and stove glass adhesive or gasket glue, depending on your stove model.
Why Replace Your Stove Glass?
Over time, the glass on your wood-burning stove may become:
- Cracked or damaged: Affecting efficiency and safety.
- Shattered: Creating potential hazards.
- Frosted over: Due to inappropriate fuel / over firing.
Replacing your stove glass not only restores your stove’s performance but also enhances safety. Follow our detailed instructions to ensure a proper, secure installation.
What You’ll Need:
- Replacement heat-resistant ceramic glass
- Screwdriver (usually flathead or Phillips) / Allen Hex Key
- Stove rope seal (if the old one is worn)
- Glass adhesive or gasket glue (if needed)
- Safety gloves
- Vacuum or soft brush (for cleaning debris)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
1. Remove the Stove Door (if needed)
- Some models let you remove the entire door for easier access.
- If not, just open the door fully and secure it while working.
-
2. Unscrew the Glass Clips or Brackets
- Most stove glass is held in by metal clips or brackets.
- Unscrew and carefully set aside the fasteners—they can be reused.
-
3. Remove the Broken or Old Glass
- Carefully take out the damaged glass.
- Watch for sharp edges, and vacuum or brush away any debris.
-
4. Inspect and Replace the Rope Seal
- Check the condition of the rope seal (around the glass or the inside of the door).
- If it's worn or frayed, remove and replace it using gasket glue.
- Let the glue dry per manufacturer instructions (usually 30–60 mins).
-
5. Install the New Glass
- Place the new ceramic glass into position.
- Ensure it’s not overly tight—leave a little room for expansion.
- Reattach the glass clips, but do not overtighten (this can crack the glass).
-
6. Test the Door
- Open and close the door to ensure the new glass sits properly.
- Check that the seal is even all the way around.
Important Tips:
- Never use standard window glass—it will shatter in high heat. Use only ceramic stove glass rated for your model.
- If the original glass had a gasket seal around it, replace it with the same type.
- If unsure, refer to your stove’s manual or contact the manufacturer for correct part numbers.
- Do NOT over tighten the glass clips – finger tighten as much as possible.
